Wūnderbar!  The Bavarian celebration of Oktoberfest began over 200 years ago in 1810 and has since been adopted as an annual tradition all around the world.  Here in the Twin Cities it has become not only a celebration of German heritage but become synonymous with the the changing of the seasons as we welcome in fall.  Your Local Gurus want to give you an opportunity to take in the majesty of this season and also celebrate the tradition of Oktoberfest with a 3-hour scenic fall boat cruise on the Mississippi, live polka music aboard our private charter, polka dance lessons, a hearty German inspired dinner, and  a pint of Indeed’s Oktoberfest!

Our evening will begin along the banks of the Mississippi River at Padelford Riverboats in downtown St. Paul’s Harriet Island Park .  Here, your GetKnit Gurus will be awaiting your arrival and ready to welcome you with a friendly “Guten Tag”!    We’ll then board the Anson Northrup, our privately chartered riverboat for our evening of festivities!  Both the main and second decks are enclosed, heated and air-conditioned, so we’ll be comfortable no matter what Mother Nature throws at us.  After getting our sea legs we’ll order up an included pint of Indeed Brewing Company’s Munich-style Oktoberfest as we set sail onto the open waters of the Mighty Mississippi. This beir pays homage to its roots with smooth German malts and zesty, noble German hops – tailor-made to toss back Munich-style and pairs perfectly with our Baviaran soft pretzel appetizer!

Our riverboat will begin by heading up river so we can enjoy the vibrant colors of the lush river valley during the pristine fall season.  As the sun begins to set we will head back down river so we can take in the skyline of our capital city as the colors of the sky are exchanged for the fluttering lights of the city.  During our cruise we will enjoy a hearty German inspired dinner which will include a bratwurst, sauerkraut, and German potato salad.  The bar will also be open, so you can purchase additional pints of Oktoberfest, as well as a wide variety of wines, cocktails, and other beers – should you wish.

Throughout the evening you’ll enjoy live entertainment from The Chmielewski Funtime Polka Band, one of the Midwest’s most well-known entertainers, as they play a mix of German inspired folk and polka music for our bash.  To help add to the celebration, we’ve enlisted the help of local dance guru, Tom Larson, who owns and operates the Ballroom and Wedding Dance Studio in South Minneapolis.  He’ll lead us in a group lesson of a common polka dance steps, and then be available for the duration of the evening for more personalized questions, tips, and tricks.  In addition to live music and dancing, we’ll also celebrate those that chose to wear their lederhosen and dirndl for the evening with a “best dressed” contest and prizes!

As we dock our Bavarian Boat for the evening we know you’ll leave feeling like you’ve been whisked away on a European getaway — having seen beautiful fall foliage, filled up on all the best Oktoberfest food and drink, and even gained a few new Polka moves!  Prost!
