EVENT DETAILS:

While spring and summer in Minnesota may bring to mind relaxing and floating aimlessly in a boat on one of our 10,000 lakes, our unique state is also home to more exciting and adventurous water adventures.  GetKnit is committed to inspiring you to get out and tread fully on your surroundings, so we’re excited to present you with a new opportunity to expand your water-sport horizons by hopping into a raft, travelling through whitewater rapids suitable for all experience levels on a picturesque river, and crossing something off your “bucket list” with our Whitewater Rafting Day Trip on the St. Louis River!

Our day will begin bright and early in Roseville, where your GetKnit Gurus will greet you with coffee and a ham-n-cheese croussaint from A Baker’s Wife Pastry Shop to enjoy as our luxury coach bus whisks us away to beautiful Jay Cooke State Park.

Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy some free time which will allow you to enjoy one of the many optional adventures this unique State Park has to offer: Cover some serious ground with a guided hike through the majestic north woods, take a daring stroll across the swinging suspension bridge above the St. Louis River, bring a Frisbee or a good book to enjoy some outdoor leisure time, or polish up on your photography skills by snapping pictures of the trees, the wildlife, and the sparkling river.  No matter which activities you choose, we’ll gather to refuel with a delicious lunch and free time at the park.  Boxed lunches, provided by Corktown Deli & Brews, will offer a selection of a Corktown Club, Corktown Mafioso Meats, Corktown S.S. Submarine, Corktown Turko Pestey, or Corktown Veggie Delight all accompanied by a dill pickle, salt and vinegar chips, and a chocolate chip cookie.

After lunch, we’ll travel a few minutes up the river to our put-in location at Minnesota Whitewater.  Here, we’ll meet our professional guides who will lead us to the shoreline to gear-up and receive a safety briefing to ensure everyone feels comfortable, secure, and ready to take on the rapids ahead!

Accompanied by our Minnesota Whitewater guides, we will embark on our 2 ½ – 3 hour rafting journey down the scenic St. Louis River by familiarizing ourselves with the boats and paddling through a ‘slalom’ course between the pylons of the I-35 freeway bridge.  After mastering our crafts, we’ll encounter the “Warm-Up Rapids” and “First Hole” which will give us our first experience in Class I-II rapids and allow us to surf the waves.  From there, things will intensify as we approach “Two Hole” and “Boat Smear Canyon”.  After taking a brief rest at the canyon, we’ll launch into the highlights of the trip with the more challenging “Hidden Hole”, “Electric Ledge”, and “Little Kauna”.  These stretches will test our skills with Class II-III rapids, including a four to six foot drop on “Electric Edge”.  In between the lively rapids suitable for all experience levels, we’ll have the opportunity to float and revel in the breathtaking natural beauty along this picturesque river.

After completing our river adventures at the Thompson Reservoir, we’ll return to Minnesota Whitewater’s basecamp to unload, clean-up, and relive our rafting conquests.  A trip down the river is sure to work up our appetites, which will be satisfied just across the road at River Inn Bar & Grill.  This local watering hole will treat us to a “grill-out-style” dinner buffet of burgers and brats with several sides.  We will also toast our adventures with well-deserved beverage of your choice (beer, wine, or rail cocktail).

Head full of memories from the wet and wild adventure on the St. Louis River and bellies full of dinner and drink, we’ll enjoy a relaxing return trip to the Twin Cities knowing that we have tread fully on our surroundings and experienced a bucket-list-worthy item in our unique state of Minnesota.
