As an organization that seeks to build community and to better our society through our events, we’ve wrestled with how to appropriately respond to and address the societal issues at the root of Mr. Floyd’s death and how to help rebuild the Twin Cities businesses that foster relationships, bridge cultures, and offer authentic experiences. These are organizations and local businesses that we work with, respect, and care for. All with the limitations already set upon us due to COVID-19.
As we look to the future, what can we do as individuals and as an organization to help in this moment while we continue striving for peace and justice? What can we “Fill Minnesota With” to both reform and rebuild the city that we love and serve? As we wrestled with this, we jotted down words…Unity….Justice…Equity… and beyond. As we took in the collection of words we were moved by the image of all of them together and decided to create a piece of art showcasing what we want to “Fill MN With”. In an effort to encourage community involvement and help raise funds for those affected by these recent events, we’ve taken this image and created a small collection of items.
Should you prefer to donate to these organizations directly we encourage you to do so. We know that there are many areas of our society and our community that deserve your time, attention, and support – now and always. We urge you to educate yourself on and pursue those avenues. For our part, GetKnit was, is, and always will be built on the idea of supporting and uplifting our diverse communities and the local businesses that reside in their borders, and this is one small part of carrying out that mission.
Our hope is that as we lift and fill our communities with love, we will create change and equity for each of our neighbors.
