Join us on our newest bucket-list overnight adventure to the charming Bayfield, WI along the south shore of Lake Superior for a weekend that you’ll never forget! From sea kayaking along the Apostle Islands National Shoreline, enjoying the breathtaking views of the Apostle Islands and its many treasures from our private sightseeing boat, delicious meals and drinks, visiting one of Northern Wisconsins most famous fruit farms, taking your chances with some late night betting, and enjoying the charming downtown streets of Bayfield, WI… this weekend getaway has something for everyone! Not only will you find fun and adventure, but GetKnit will plan all the details of your weekend “in the islands” so you can truly relax and enjoy this one-of-a-kind bucket-list overnight experience.

Our weekend will begin bright and early on Saturday morning as we gather at St. Paul’s Union Depot where your local GetKnit Gurus will be excitedly awaiting your arrival with donuts from A Bakers Wife and hot coffee – to start our day off right. We’ll be able to store your luggage safely below and then board our luxury coach bus that will whisk us away for our journey to Northern Wisconsin to explore Apostle Islands, or the “Crown Jewels”, and the breathtaking South Shore of Lake Superior! Once we’re on our way north, we’ll enjoy a savory hand pie of your choosing from The Buttered Tin! At time of registration, you’ll be able to choose between their Ham and Pimento Cheese; Brie Cheese, Caramelized Onion and Potato; or the Chorizo Sausage, Cheese and Potato.

Shortly after passing over the border into Wisconsin, we will make a lunch break at one of their treasured state parks – Amnicon Falls State Park. Here we will enjoy a gourmet boxed lunch catered into the park by Northern Waters Smokehaus out of Duluth, MN. They specialize in smoked fish, handcrafted smoked meats, and unique deli sandwiches. Lunch will feature a boxed meal of your choice. At time of registration, you’ll be able to choose between their Cajun Finn: Haus-smoked Cajun salmon, green onion cream cheese, roasted red peppers, pepperoncini & lettuce on stirato; Cold Turkey: Haus-smoked sage maple turkey breast (free-range and MN raised), lettuce, Swiss & our very special craisen walnut mayo. Served on stirato; Pastrami Mommy: smoked pastrami, pepperoncini, provolone, lettuce, mustard & mayo on rye; the Sitka Sushi: Gravlax (cured salmon), pickled ginger, cilantro, cucumbers, shredded cabbage, sesame oil, wasabi mayo, and Sriracha on a hero roll; the Gorilla: Haus-smoked Minnesota Berkshire ham, Swiss cheese, baby greens, Haus mustard & mayo on rye; and the Fuzzy Bunny: Green onion cream cheese, roasted red peppers, cucumbers, shredded cabbage, tomatoes, onion, lettuce, cilantro, black pepper & a shot of sesame oil on stirato. All accompanied with potato chips and a cookie from Duluth’s very own Positively 3rd Street Bakery. After refueling, we will get to enjoy a leisurely 1-mile hike and explore the four waterfalls and historic wood covered bridge along the nearby Amnicon River.

After our short break, we will continue our travels to the charming lakeside town of Bayfield, WI. Once we arrive, we will make a stop at our accommodations for our weekend getaway at the Legendary Waters Resort and Casino, which is nestled along the South Shore of Lake Superior and just three miles from downtown Bayfield, WI. After checking into our Lakeview room, we’ll have roughly two hours of free time to clean up, relax, and enjoy our accommodations at this beautiful property. During this time our coach will also offer shuttles to downtown to give you the opportunity to explore the shops, bars, cafes and shoreline – should you choose.

After our free time, we’ll regroup at the Bayfield Marina’s Apostle Islands Cruises. Here we’ll board our privately charted glass bottom boat for a 2-hour scenic happy hour cruise through the Apostle Islands. Once we set sail we will get to enjoy an assortment of appetizers catered on board from local favorite, The Fat Radish. We will also order up your choice of local craft beer, wine, or nonalcoholic beverage to enjoy alongside of our pre dinner snacks. Our cruise will take us on a narrated, informative 30+ mile scenic cruise, as we pass extraordinary natural scenery, the historic Raspberry Island Lighthouse, standing rocks, extensive sea caves, and the marine wildlife of Wisconsin’s “Crown Jewels” on majestic Lake Superior.

After our scenic cruise, we will head to Pier Plaza Restaurant located directly across from the Marina for our scrumptious lakeside dinner! Here we’ll be invited to get comfy in their charming dining room filled with small town charm. We will enjoy a pub style dinner where you can choose between your choice of (chosen at time of registration): BBQ Bacon Northlander: 1/2 lb. Grilled Angus Beef Burger, Applewood Smoked Bacon, House BBQ Sauce, Cheddar Cheese. Served with fries; Fish ‘N’ Fries: Fresh Lake Superior Whitefish Lightly Breaded and Deep Fried. Served with Fries and Coleslaw; Sharon’s Favorite: Grilled Chicken Breast, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Guacamole, Romaine, Sliced Tomato. Served with fries; Beyond the Garden Veggie Burger: Grilled Protein Plant Based Patty, Topped with Caramelized Onion & Mushrooms Sautéed in Garlic, Swiss Cheese, White BBQ, Artisan Bun. Served with fries; Grilled Romaine Heart Steak Salad: Olive Oil Grilled Romaine Heart, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Tomato, Crumbled Bleu Cheese & House Bleu Cheese Dressing, Tenderloin Steak. Served with a breadstick; Protein Bowl: Jasmine Rice, Black Beans, Romaine, Edamame, Maple Sweet Potatoes, White BBQ Sauce with Shredded Lime Chicken; Margherita Naan: Oven Baked Naan, Burrata Cheese, Tomatoes, Artichokes & Hot Honey; or the Steak Naan Pizza: Oven Baked Naan Topped with Steak, Caramelized Onions, Sautéed Portobello Mushrooms, Monterey Jack Cheddar & Bourbon Cream Cheese. With dinner you’ll be able to order up your choice of beer, house wine, rail drink or nonalcoholic beverage. After dinner the rest of the night is yours to do with what you will! Explore some other local hangouts and watering holes, take a moonlight walk along the lakefront, head back to the hotel and test your luck with some late night gambling, or treat yourself to a well-deserved early night in. After a good night’s rest, we will enjoy a private breakfast buffet in our hotel’s event center just for our group. Our breakfast will feature a hearty mix of eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage, biscuits and gravy, toast, assorted pastries with coffee and juice. Once we fill up our bellies, we will begin our preparations for the bucket-list day that lies ahead.

For our sea kayaking adventure along the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, we will break our group into three smaller groups to create a truly intimate experience on the waters of Lake Superior. At time of registration, you’ll be able to choose between three time frames (8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM) when we will board our transport and head to the iconic Meyers Beach. Here we will be introduced to our experienced partners at Trek and Trail, who will be leading us throughout our morning adventures on the water. Upon arriving, we will gear up, put on our included wet suit, and then head to the water’s edge to receive a safety briefing and on-land training to ensure everyone feels comfortable and secure. We will then take to the sea in our tandem kayaks for an in-water lesson before heading out to the vast waters of Lake Superior. From there, we will take a two hour tour of the national shoreline, taking in the views of the sea caves, sheer cliffs, endless water, and beauty of this iconic outdoor location.

After our epic adventure on the big lake, we will regroup on the shoreline of Lake Superior and enjoy some light snacks and drinks, as our larger group completes their bucket-list adventures. While Bayfield is certainly known for the Apostle Islands – it is also known as the “Berry Capital of Wisconsin”! Once we’ve all come together, we will board our luxury charter and head to the iconic Hauser’s Superior View Farm & Apfelhaus Cidery to celebrate our recent achievements! Here we will be welcomed with a celebratory Apfelhaus Cider of our choice (or NA) from their selection of small batch ciders made with produce grown, picked, pressed, and fermented on their family owned farm. Here we will be treated to a festive lunch buffet from the local favorite, Café Coco! They will treat us to a collection of house-made sandwiches including their Turkey and Cheddar with Basil Mayo on Ciabatta, Ham and Swiss with Honey Mustard Cream Cheese on Farmhouse White, Muffuletta – a New Orleans Classic with spicy olive relish, ham, salami and provolone, and a Hummus & Veggie on Focaccia (veg / vegan). Alongside our sandwiches we will get to enjoy a lovely local Green Salad, Wild Rice Waldorf Salad, and chips. Once we finish our lunch, we will have some free time to explore the expansive grounds at Hauser’s – including a 1-mile hike that leads to some breathtaking views of Lake Superior, shop at the famous Red Barn Store, wander through the apple and berry farms, or just sit back and relax while you order up another Cider.

Bellies full, challenges conquered, and opportunities seized, the trip back to the Twin Cities is sure to find you reflecting on a weekend filled with great island adventures!
