EVENT DETAILS:

Get whisked away to ‘Bavaria’ this fall on our brand-new culinary experience, ‘Cooking at the Brewery: A Taste of Oktoberfest’ at Utepils Brewing Company, as part of our newest hit cooking series! During this outing, you’ll learn the art of creating traditional handmade German Spätzle, how to create a flavorful Butter Schnitzel with a pan-seared pork chop in an engaging cooking class for all skill levels. And better yet, it all takes place in the engaging and unique setting of a local brewery!

To begin this event, our GetKnit Gurus will be ready to welcome you at Utepils Brewing Company in Minneapolis, MN. Nestled on the beautiful banks of Bassett Creek, Utepils pays homage to European style brewing and believes that “good brewing starts with honoring the traditions of brewers who have gone before us—but sometimes, to know whether something is delicious, you need to experience it yourself.” After getting settled in, you’ll be invited to take a seat in “Bay 10” – our private event space for the evening and enjoy a beer tasting flight featuring five house-made beers of your choice. Perfectly paired with our beer tastings, we will be invited to enjoy a personally sized German Soft Pretzel appetizer from Minneapolis’ own Aki’s Breadhaus, to help kick off the culinary trip to Oktoberfest for our evening together.

Once we’ve all arrived, we will meet our partners from Way Cool Cooking School, who’ve been bringing people together in the kitchen through food experiences since 2004. Under the guidance of their qualified, personable and professional chefs, as we enjoy our appetizer we will first get a demonstration on how to create a scrumptious seasonal beer cheese soup – using Utepils’ beer nonetheless! Then, we will have a chance to create our very own German Spätzle also using Utepils’ beer. While our dough rests, we will learn how to create our very own Butter Schnitzel and will have a chance to bread our boneless pork chops, pan fry them in a skillet, and create a perfectly paired sauce.

Once our dough is ready, we will then learn how to transform it into traditional Spätzle. Under the guidance of our chef team and working in small groups, we will use the provided tools to create this iconic German dish.

As our sauce simmers and its intoxicating aromas fill the air – we’ll be invited to begin eating the fruits of our labor! To round out our Oktoberfest themed dinner, we will enjoy chef-made Chocolate Cake made with Utepils’ beer! A full overview of our “Taste of Oktoberfest” menu is as follows:

  • Course 1: Chef Demonstrated Beer Cheese Soup: ‘Way Cool’s’ Signature Beer Cheese Soup, made with Utepils’ beer!
  • Course 2: Hands-On Fresh Homemade Spätzle and Butter Schnitzel: Handmade German Spätzle with Butter Schnitzel, breaded boneless pork chops simmered in a flavorful sauce made with Utepils’ beer. This traditional German dish is a culinary delight, transforming an everyday pork chop into a truly impressive and flavorful meal!
  • Course 3: Chef-Prepared Chocolate Cakes: Individual chocolate cakes made with Utepils’ beer to create a decadent sponge. Baked in advance by the Way Cool chefs and served to close the evening on a sweet note.

With bellies as full as our hearts, new skills learned and new friends made – we will head home with recipe cards featuring all of the items on our menu, so we can recreate this meal in the comfort of our own homes and revisit “Oktoberfest” anytime we please.
