From rolling hills, to winding roads, to picturesque rivers, Southern Minnesota is home to diverse typography and even more diverse local breweries. Join GetKnit as we explore the all of the beautiful lands and delicious brews that this unique region has to offer with our exclusive Southern Minnesota Brewery Tour.
Your day will be begin upon arrival at Union Depot – Lot C, where your GetKnit Gurus will be eagerly awaiting with coffee and pastries to help jump start your morning. A deluxe motor-coach will serve as our chariot as we travel south to explore this magnificent land of golden corn and beers.
Our first stop will be at legendary August Schell Brewing Company in New Ulm. Upon arrival, we will embark on our private tour of the historic brewery that has been producing “German craft beer” for 6 generations. From there, we will sample a round of just a few of the over 100 beers they have brewed since 1860 and have some free time to wander the Gift Haus.
Next, we will make our way down the road to the new Starkeller Brewery which is is the latest venture from Brewmaster Jace Marti of Schell’s. This brewery is features an array of award winning “sour” Berliner Weiss style beers. Here our beer tastings will be complemented by a delicious BBQ cookout buffet catered right into the brewhouse from local favorite, Mac’s Smokehouse. They will have a smattering of smoked brisket, pulled pork, cole slaw, beans, and potato salad for us to feast on.
After we’ve eaten our fill, we will make our way to Mankato Brewery where we will be greeted with more beer tastings and an energetic staff who is passionate about their beer and the town in which they brew it. An optional tour will round-out our stop in North Mankato.
From there, we will make our way to northeast to F-Town Brewing, which is located in historic downtown Faribault. Here, we will sample some suds and hear more about how this new brewery is looking to reignite, pursue to perfect, and blaze a new trail of brewing high quality beer that began in this town in 1856.
Next we will head to nearby Rochester and visit Forager Brewery located in trendy Kutzky Market. Here, we will taste some of their unique beers made with fresh ingredients “foraged” from local farms in Southeastern Minnesota. Alongside of these tastings we will get to enjoy some hummus as an appetizer from Forager’s impressive kitchen.
Grand Rounds Brewpub will serve as our last stop for the day and we will be treated with several more tastings accompanied by a delicious dinner served in an establishment which the staff hopes you will find as “a gathering place, a true neighborhood pub where folks feel welcome, where anyone and everyone can meet and have a good discussion…” Options for your feast include Jams & Cheddar Dog, Historic 3rd St. Burger, Italian Beef Sandwich, made Mac & Cheese, Walnut Burger, Nachos, or Mn-phis Smoked Chicken.
On our journey back to the Twin Cities, we think you will find yourself reflecting back on a day full of new brews, new experiences, and new drinking buddies – and trust that you will agree that each of these places was well worth the trip to this unique region of our great state.
