Minneapolis and St. Paul are home to world-class museums, a plethora of theaters, countless local artisans, and two full cities’ worth of breathtaking architecture. To say that the Twin Cities are a mecca for art lovers would be an understatement. One art form that is constantly gaining popularity across our state is the creation of craft beer with its multilayered flavors and rich colors. Inspired by the art of beer, and in celebration of the local art community, we’ve created a new Arts & Ales event series for the fall that is our spookiest yet: Pumpkin Carving! For these events we are proud to be partnering with Indeed Brewing Company and local artists from around the Twin Cities to pair together two “crafts”.
Our evening will begin at Indeed Brewing Company, which is located in the Solar Arts Building in N.E. Minneapolis. Here, your GetKnit Gurus will be awaiting your arrival in their event space – “The Ox” – and get you checked in for our creative night of fun and crafts. After ordering up one of Indeed’s artfully delicious beers, we will all enjoy a meal from local favorite, Blue Door Pub. They’ll be catering in a full dinner of salad, homemade chips, and a choice of one of their ‘Blucys’, which is their stuffed burger, or a homemade Black Bean Burger. After we eat and drink our fill, we will be ready to dive into the night’s featured art medium: Pumpkin Carving!
Just in time for the Halloween festivities, we’ll learn how to carve unique jack-o-lanterns from our resident artists. They will share some helpful “tips and tricks” and teach us some special techniques including stenciling and scraping. After a demonstration and orienting ourselves with all the tools and items available during this class, we will test our skills and get to carving – using our take-home pumpkin(s) to test out different techniques and create festive masterpieces.
Join us for this special fall edition of Arts & Ales to tap into your spook-tacularly creative side and unleash your inner ghost (ahem artist)!
