The great state of Minnesota is beautiful during all seasons, but come Autumn, when the air is crisp and the trees begin to turn fiery colors of orange, yellow, and red, the Land of Lakes really shines. No place in the state showcases these beautiful Fall colors more than the North Shore of Lake Superior. Join us for a full day of exploration as we take in the majesty of this region by bus, train, boat, and foot.
Our day will begin bright and early as we gather at the Park-n-Ride in Roseville, where your GetKnit Gurus will be waiting to greet you with coffee and pastries. From there, a luxury coach bus will whisk us away to the historic port town of Duluth, MN. Upon arrival, we will transfer from bus to private train car aboard the historic North Shore Scenic Railroad. Our 1.5 hour journey down these scenic tracks will allow us to take in the beauty all around as we weave in and out of golden forests, over waterfalls, and along the shores of the greatest of all the lakes.
After our scenic ride north, we will arrive in Two Harbors where our coach bus will be waiting for us and we will take a quick drive to Gooseberry Falls State Park. Here, we will head to the rustic Lady Slipper Lodge nestled in the woods for a hearty buffet of fresh salad and three homemade soups from local favorite, The Vanilla Bean Restaurant.
After re-fueling and re-energizing, we will be able to explore the stunning shoreline of Lake Superior. Following our time after lunch, we’ll head towards the iconic waterfalls which the park is known for and have free time to hike and explore the park at our own pace.
A quick trip to back to Duluth aboard our coach will give us the opportunity to “choose our own adventure” in Canal Park. Take a stroll along the lake walk, watch the rise and fall of the quintessential lift bridge, pop into a brewery for a beer, visit a local distillery, or do some shopping at one of the many shops in this renowned area of the city.
After our free time, we will come back together and board the Vista Fleet’s Star for a breathtaking two-long sunset dinner cruise on Lake Superior. On the boat, we will be able to enjoy a beer, wine, or cocktail as our Captain navigates the graceful waters and colorful coastline. Once we get our sea legs under us, the new hit restaurant OMC Smokehouse will treat us to a hearty BBQ dinner of brisket, pulled pork, and chicken with an array of delicious sides.
The trip back to our beloved Twin Cities will round out this amazing day full of exploration and adventure. We think you’ll agree that this day-trip will leave you with beautiful photos, wonderful memories, and a renewed appreciation for all that our diverse state has to offer.
