EVENT DETAILS:

The great state of Minnesota is beautiful during all seasons, but come Autumn, when the air is crisp and the trees begin to turn fiery colors of orange, yellow, and red, the Land of Lakes really shines.  For this installment of our ‘Fall Foliage’ event series, we’ll explore the pristine St. Croix River Valley.  Join us for a full day of fall fun as we take in the majesty of this region by bus, train, trolley, boat, and foot.

Our day will begin in Roseville, MN at our check-in location, where your GetKnit Gurus will be waiting to greet you with a hot cup of joe and donuts. From there, a luxury coach bus will whisk us north while we enjoy some ham and cheese croissants from A Bakers Wife.  Our first stop of the day will be at the beautiful Interstate State Park nestled on the coast of the pristine St. Croix River.  Here we will be greeted by a naturalist, who will give a brief but informative overview of the many treasures that lie within this too often overlooked state park.  Afterwards we will have some free time to explore the beautiful park on our own.

After we’ve gotten some fresh air, we’ll head to Minnesota Transportation Museum’s historic 1916 Soo Line depot located in Osceola, WI.  There we will board the Great Northern train and get settled into our private train cars for a 90 minute journey that follows the St. Croix River valley on top of the river bluffs, winds down to river level, crosses over historic bridges, and travels through lush state parks.

We will then head to the river valley’s newest winery – Rustic Roots Winery.   Here we’ll be welcomed with a wine tasting flight of four locally made wines in their outdoor tent adjacent to their beautiful vine filled fields, reserved just for us.  Once we get settled in we’ll be treated to a  scrumptious lunch buffet from local favorite – Juneberry Cafe.   Our lunch buffet will include an impressive seasonal spread featuring Turkey sandwiches with roasted sweet potatoes and raspberry jam with romaine; Salami sandwiches with tomato, mozzarella, and dijon mustard with romaine ; Couscous Salad with roasted butternut squash, craisins, and roasted pepitas; mixed greens salad; kettle cooked potato chips and chocolate chip cookies.  After we’ve refueled, you’ll have some free time to order up another beverage, explore the grounds, or just kick up your feet and take in the beautiful views of the valley from our private covered pergola.

Next, we will continue our journey down river to the “birthplace of Minnesota” – Stillwater, MN.  Here we’ll have some free time to walk out onto the newly opened pedestrian lift bridge, explore some shops, grab a pick-me-up from a local coffee shop, or keep the party going with a drink from Stillwater’s own local brewery or distillery.  However you choose to explore, you’ll be sure to enjoy the charm of this small river town.

We will come back together and board the Stillwater Trolley for a 45 minute open-aired private tour of this historic town. This narrated tour will take you on a journey as Stillwater evolved from a booming lumber town full of beautiful old Victorian Mansions to “One of the prettiest little towns in America”.

To round out this epic fall day, we’ll board our private Stillwater River Boat for a 2-hour sunset dinner cruise!  Once we get on board we will be treated to your choice of a tap beer, house wine, rail drink, or non-alcoholic beverage.  After we’ve had some time to marvel at the views of this National Parkway, we’ll be treated to a dinner buffet featuring your choice of Lemon Garlic Crusted Chicken, Beef Pot Roast with Candied Carrots, & Roast Pork with Apples served with salad, fruit, and potatoes.  After we’ve eaten our fill, we’ll be able to kick back and enjoy a lovely sunset as we cruise back into Stillwater to complete our day’s adventures.

We think you’ll agree that this day-trip will leave you with beautiful photos, wonderful memories, and a renewed appreciation for all that our diverse state (and Western WI!) has to offer.
