As the great Minnesotan Herb Brooks famously said, “Great moments are born from great opportunity.” Well, we here at GetKnit believe that the winter season brings incredible opportunities to scratch new items off our bucket lists and to truly enjoy what our great state has to offer. Seize the opportunity to create your own great moment and join GetKnit for our all-levels Ice Climbing and Snowshoeing Day Trip!
Our day will begin bright and early as we gather in Roseville where your GetKnit Gurus will be anxiously awaiting your arrival with coffee and breakfast from A Baker’s Wife. From there, a luxury coach bus will whisk us away to our very own winter wonderland on the North Shore of Lake Superior: Gooseberry Falls State Park.
Once we have arrived, a bevy of cold-weather activities awaits! First, we will be introduced to our experienced partners, Positive Energy Outdoors, who will be leading us throughout the day’s adventures. At this point, breaking into two groups will allow us more time to truly delve into each of the opportunities that await. The first group will head down to the Falls to gear-up and receive a tutorial from the experts at Positive Energy Outdoors to make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable. We will then take to the frozen water falls and do at least two climbs on the different lines set up just for us. Meanwhile, the second group will strap on snowshoes for an exploration along the picturesque Lake Superior Shoreline and Gooseberry River, taking in the views and peaceful serenity of the snow covered North Shore. Midway through the day, we will warm up in the Lakeview cabin nestled on the shoreline and refuel with a hearty chili cookout with fixings, cornbread, hot apple cider, and cookies provided by our friends at Vanilla Bean Cafe. After we have enjoyed our lunch and warmed up by the fire, we will swap groups so that everyone will have an opportunity to both Ice Climb and Snowshoe.
After conquering Gooseberry Falls, our short trip to Duluth will provide an opportunity to warm up and revel in the accomplishments of our day. A delicious dinner paired with your choice of craft beer, wine, or hot cocoa at Canal Park Brewing Company will round out your three square meals for the day. However, no Minnesota Winter day would be complete without some time spent around the campfire, so we will gather around the blaze on the patio and “cheers” to checking another adventure off your bucket list.
Bellies full, challenges conquered, and opportunities seized, the trip back to the Twin Cities is sure to find you reflecting on a full day filled with great snow-covered moments.
