EVENT DETAILS:

The mighty Mississippi’s headwaters begin in the beautiful Itasca State Park in northern Minnesota and then continue for thousands of more miles to the Gulf of Mexico.  The stretch of the river between Minnesota and Wisconsin forms a beautiful valley that has not only vibrant towns and beautiful landscapes, but is also home to a booming craft beer scene in the mighty Midwest.  Join GetKnit Events to get a taste of the Mississippi River Valley as we explore this national treasure and the breweries and brewpubs on it’s shores.

Our day trip will begin in the Union Depot in St. Paul, MN where your GetKnit Gurus will greet you with fresh pastries and coffee to help jump start our day’s brew-ventures.  Once we’ve all arrived, a deluxe motor-coach will then whisk us south to the pristine Mississippi River Valley.  Our first stop as we head down river will be at Red Wing Brewery in historic Red Wing, MN.  Here we will enjoy a mix of their more traditional craft beers alongside historical beers, like the Remmler’s Royal Brew, which is a beer they’ve resurrected from a recipe dating back to 1861.  As we enjoy our tastings we will enjoy an early lunch of salad, breadsticks, and handcrafted pizzas.

From there we’ll travel to Reads Landing Brewing Company, which is located right on the banks of the Mississippi River. Here we will enjoy several more tastings in their historic, two-story storefront building. We will continue our journey down the winding river through beautiful bluffs to Wenonah Brewing Company in Goodview, MN.  One of the newest breweries in the Minnesota craft beer scene, here we will enjoy another round of tastings as we take in the scenery of our great state.

We will then journey over the river to the Wisconsin side and visit Pearl Street Brewery in La Crosse, WI that’s been serving up craft beer since 1999.  We’ll taste some beers, choose our favorite, order a pint served in a take-home Pearl Street glass, and head on a tour of their facility, suds in hand.  We will then start making our way back north along the eastern banks of the river to the historic city of Goodview, WI.  Here we will step back in time as we visit the Monarch Public House that has been slinging brews since 1864, making it Wisconsin’s oldest tavern.  The Monarch has brought back the old Fountain Brewing Company’s beers that was in operation from 1856 to 1965.  We will get to enjoy a flight of these historic brews paired with an Irish Sampler appetizer to tide us over until dinner.  For our final stop in the valley we’ll stop by the brand new Common Man Brewing Company, Wisconsin’s newest brewpub.  So new in fact that they are still perfecting their beer recipes, so here we will sample some visiting taps from other WI craft breweries.  Here we will also enjoy our final meal together with a delicious pub style dinner.  Options include Campfire Burger, NFC North Black and Blue Burger, Grilled Turkey Club, a  Black Bean Veggie Burrito, and a Grilled Chicken BBQ Salad.

Between the historic beer tastings, visits to six diverse breweries, delicious handcrafted food, and the beautiful river valley this day will leave you “hoppy” from head to toe.
