Sunday-Funday baby! While hard cider is king throughout the United Kingdom, not even the Queen of England and her guard can keep this fermented nectar all to themselves – especially here in Minnesota, where we’ve created some of the most popular apple varieties like the Honeycrisp, Haralson, SweeTango, and the Honeygold! Recently the Twin Cities has seen a surge in local cider houses and the GetKnit team wants to give you an opportunity to explore some of them on a guided tour to four unique craft cideries with tastings at each, a delicious wood-fire pizza lunch, tours, round-trip luxury transportation and more!
On select Sundays this fall, our afternoon of cidering will begin at the Twin Cities original cider house, Sociable Cider Werks in N.E. Minneapolis. Here your local ‘Gurus’ will be awaiting your arrival and get you checked in for our day of sipping ciders. Once our group all arrives, we will be invited inside Sociable’s taproom – which will be opened up just for us – and we’ll have an opportunity to enjoy a tasting flight of their “innovative libations that are best when shared with a friend” and hear a bit more about how this beloved cidery got their start on a behind-the-scenes tour.
After we’ve started our day out right at Sociable, we will head to downtown Minneapolis to Number 12 Cider which opened in the late fall of 2018. Number 12 strives to offer “distinctive ciders, made using centuries-old techniques” and they do just that with an impressive line-up of unique ciders on tap. Here we’ll not only be treated to another flight, but enjoy a scrumptious lunch from their resident wood fire pizza food truck, Little Tomato. They’ll be serving up a buffet of salad and pizza just for our group. Gluten free pizzas will be available if needed (at your request at time of registration).
With bellies full of wonderful cider and lunch alike, we will continue onwards to Urban Forage Winery and Cider House, tucked away on the bustling East Lake Street. This unassuming cider house offers some delectable craft ciders (wines and meads too!) which are all made from crowdsourced fruit, flowers and honey as well as locally sourced fresh juice. They live up to their name, as they also harvest apples, pears, apricots and cherries off of local residents’ fruit trees in the surrounding neighborhoods to create some of their amazing offerings. Here we’ll enjoy another round of tastings and get to hear more about their small batch approach and how they make such high quality products.
We will then make our way to our final stop of the afternoon, Minneapolis Cider Company. This cider house got its start on the U of M campus where owners submitted a business plan for a cidery as their capstone project for an Entrepreneurship course. That capstone came to life and later went into production as the beloved brand, Lionheart Cider. Expanding upon that brands success, Minneapolis Cider set out to create something bigger and better with their brand new taproom and production facility. Here we’ll explore their stunning taproom, enjoy our final round of tastings for the day, and get to hear more about their mantra “Welcome to Cider”.
After returning back to our meet-up location, you’ll be set free to enjoy the rest of your evening – having enjoyed the splendors of the growing craft cider scene. Perfect for wine, beer, and cider lovers alike – this experience will leave you feeling like British royalty. We hope you can join us.
