Minnesota has a long-time friendly rivalry with our neighbors to the east – Wisconsin. While we might not always agree on who’s sports teams are the best or whether purple or green best compliment gold – one thing we can all agree on is that each state has an amazing craft beer scene just waiting to be explored! Join GetKnit Events as we take a day-trip to Western Wisconsin to explore the diverse brews found throughout our neighbors’ backyard.
Our day will begin in St. Paul, Minnesota, where your GetKnit Gurus will be awaiting your arrival with a casual breakfast of pastries and our first “brew” of the day – coffee. After grabbing breakfast, our deluxe motor-coach will whisk us away to Western Wisconsin. Our first stop of the day will be in River Falls, WI at Rush River Brewing – a staple in the local brewing scene who have been brewing up flavorful beers since 2004. From there, we’ll travel down the road to the newly opened Swinging Bridge Brewing Company, where we will fill up with a tasting flight, giant shareable pretzels, and a pub-style lunch. Choose between a brisket sliders, pulled pork sandwich, or a caprese sandwich – each served with a side of chips and pickles.
After fueling-up with food, we’ll continue our ‘Beer-venture’ at Hudson’s newest brewery Hop & Barrel Brewing Company, enjoying a round of tastings at their new brewhouse located in the heart of downtown Hudson. Next, we will continue our journey into Wisconsin where we will visit Oliphant Brewing. Here, we will enjoy any array of their popular creative and brews. Before making the journey back to Minnesota, we’ll make a stop at Barley John’s Brewing Co. which opened their production brewery and taproom in WI after the great success of their brewpub in MN. We’ll have the opportunity to enjoy an array of light appetizers including different dips, baguettes, and more. Our final beer tastings of the day from Barley John’s will wash down our afternoon snack.
From the vast array of beer tastings from five of Western Wisconsin’s best breweries, to the hearty food throughout the day – this day may not turn you into a Packers fan, but it will certainly help to make nice, or at least forge a mutual respect, with our beer-loving neighbors to the east.
