9 of your ‘Local Gurus’ Favorite Pie Spots in the Twin Cities (and beyond!)
Today is Thursday, January 23rd and did you know that it’s National Pie Day? At GetKnit we feel nothing represents the bold north quite like a humble slice of pie. In celebration of this day your Local Gurus put together a list of some of our favorite pies, pie shops, and bakeries throughout Minnesota! In no particular order – let’s dive right in…
Located in Two Harbors, MN along the shores of Lake Superior this family-run cafe not only serves up delicious entrees but absolutely amazing house-made pies! Their list of seasonal pies will easily overwhelm, as they have a wild variety that ranges from fruit to cream pies. Some of our team favorites include their Lemon Angel (oh my!), North Shore Berry Crumble, and their 5 Layer Chocolate – but you cannot go wrong with anything you choose. A must stop when you’re on the North Shore!
Heather’s Pies offers up custom made pies that are baked fresh upon ordering and can be picked up or delivered throughout the Metro! Her pies are as tasty as they are beautiful, some of which could be considered a work of art. If her amazing flavors weren’t enough, she also offers up “message pies”. That’s right! If you want to wish someone a happy birthday or immortalize your love in delicious buttery pie dough…then Heather’s Pies should be your next call!

While Revival is known for their amazing fried chicken, smoked meats, delicious cocktails, and incredible sides (which alone are worth a visit to any of their three locations in the Twin Cities) they also serve up some of the best pie in the Twin Cities! We were torn between which was our favorite of their rotating pie selection….so we’re calling a three way tie between Butterscotch, Banana Cream, and their Key Lime (pictured). Get! It! Now!

Housed in a restored 1957 original Fodero Dinning Car, Hi-Lo is home to a variety of delicious original diner fare. With things like the “Gary Cooper Hi-Top” on the menu it is easy to fill up on their main course, but make sure you save room for a slice of pie (or two!) for dessert. Offering four stunners that including pumpkin, mixed berry, grandma’s apple, and black bottom banana cream. Pro-tip: Not only are these delectable pies available by the slice daily, they offer their pies for takeaway each Thanksgiving as a special holiday pre-order!
Located in Minneapolis in the previous location of Butter Bakery, Dave the Pie Guy offers up a smorgasbord of breakfast, lunch, and house-made desserts. While everything at “Daves” is good – as the name would suggest – the pies steal the show! Available as a full pie or by the slice, Dave offers up a fun mix of traditional and unique pies alike. A must visit.

The Buttered Tin can do no wrong! Located in downtown St. Paul this stylish cafe serves up an amazing spread of baked goods, breakfast, and lunch. While we love everything sweet (and savory) that this charming cafe offers up – their pies are near and dear to our heart. Their whole pie menu is available made-to-order with 48 hours notice, and if that wasn’t good enough they offer two sizes…whole and mini! Yum.

This slice is so fresh it isn’t even open…yet! Pie & Mighty got their start operating out of a commercial kitchen and offering their pies as made-to-order only. According to a recent article from Eatery Twin Cities “Up until now, fans of their legendary pies have had to sign up for a newsletter, add their names and hoped for selections to a lottery form, and wait to see if their names are drawn to have a chance to get their hands on some pie.” Forget meat raffles, that is a lottery we can get behind! They have plans to open their NEW storefront in South Minneapolis over the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

This pie spot needs no introduction – they are “world famous” after all! Nestled on the shore of Lake Superior, Betty’s Pies got their start back in 1957 and has been filling bellies with her homemade goodness ever since. A must visit when up north – and if you cannot make the trip worry not – they now ship their pies overnight anywhere in the US!
